What does the Internet look like !
I just had to share this... The top image is from Tomas Saraceno's show at the Venice Biennale, via Designboom Bottom image is from the Internet Mapping Project, by Bill Cheswick I imagine that both structures in a way deals with the ongoing destruction of hierarchies and the replacing them with more horizontal structures, or "clouds"... (again Friedman's "flattening" of the world) Also, please listen in to Clay Shirky's TED: "How cellphones, Twitter, Facebook can make history" talk, where Mr. Shirky argues convincingly how, again the hierarchical pyramids (Top-Down) have been replaced by clouds... When You read this You and I are in fact proving the "flattening / cloud" thesis right... I have become a producer of content and You could very easily become one to, for example You could comment on this, this comment would be read by a third person... etc etc... Never, ever have the empowerment of individual expression been so drastically changed, so quickly as right now... Old way: One to many, vs. New way: Many to many) The problem of course is that we need to sort out all this new information flooding us... Another example of consumers becoming producers is when, right now, as You read this, N.Y.Times is asking "Readers inside Iran or in touch with people there are encouraged to use the comments box below to share what you are hearing or seeing with us." following the popular protests against the perceived vote fraud in Iran.
