The beauty of a woman has always been inspiration and muse to any kind of art, be it the model of a painter or the model of a photogapher. Manila born NY artist Skye Nicolas blends fashion photography and fine art portraiture to create a synergy of both media in his paintings. His motifs are mostly taken from his own photoshoots, in attitude and composition of fashion editorials or ad campaign layouts, which he transforms into his intimidating large paintings.

These oil and crayon paintings gain intensity though their size, unveiling both the superficial narssisim of the fashion industry and the vulnerable youthful innocence of the model. Characteristic is his choice of colors using only black and white on brown paper canvas.

The subtle sexuality in his creations makes one think about the relationship between the muse and the artist...hasn't it always been the case that in the history of art a creation turns out to be the best when the artist is emotionally involved in any kind of way?...
